PARISH MISSION STATEMENT - The Church of Transfiguration and Saints Peter & Paul is a Catholic Christian Community of disciples of Jesus Christ who are dedicated to evangelization through continual ageless religious education and spiritual growth with a clear focus on pastoral outreach and music ministry.

PARISH BUS TRIP TO ATLANTIC CITY - Transfiguration Church will sponsor a bus trip to Atlantic City on THURSDAY, AUGUST 7th, 2008. There are still a few seats available to fill the bus. Come join us for a fun-filled day! 
COST: $25.00 per person which must be paid in advance. Bus will leave in front of Transfiguration Church at 8 AM sharp and depart from Atlantic City at 6 PM.

SHOWBOAT CASINO.

ATTENTION ALTAR SERVERS, EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST AND LECTORS - The new schedules for AUGUST and SEPTEMBER are completed and ready for pick up. Please pick your schedules up in the sacristy as soon as possible.
We will be having practice for new altar servers in September.

OUTSIDE TICKET SALES - To date, we have sold close to $7,000 in outside ticket sales. A huge thank you to Marge Jurewicz and her team who have spent so many countless hours selling tickets for our picnic. This would not be possible if it weren’t for all of our dedicated parishioners.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING THE SACRAMENTS OF 1ST PENANCE, 1ST EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION - Diocesan policy states that two years of preparation are required before celebration of the sacraments of FIRST PENANCE, FIRST EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION. Thus, all students receiving First Penance and First Eucharist in 2010, MUST be enrolled in the first grade CCD Class in September 2008. 
All students who wish to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation in 2010, MUST be enrolled in CCD Class in September 2008.

CCD registration forms are available in the back of the church. Please return them to the Rectory ASAP.

NEXT-TO-NEW STAND - Items can still be dropped off for our Next-to-New Stand at our picnic. This is always a big hit and everyone seems to enjoy this popular stand. They can be dropped off at the Rectory or you may call Teresa Serafini at 454-0176 to arrange for a pick up.

TENT SPONSORS - LAST WEEKEND TO BE A TENT SPONSOR….Please consider being a Tent Sponsor for this year’s picnic. The cost for our tent rental this year is $5,749.00. Signs for sponsors shall be displayed on the Picnic grounds. ALL sponsor donations are due at the Rectory no later than Monday, July 14th.

TRICKY TRAYS NEEDED - We are currently collecting TRICKY TRAY baskets for Transfiguration Picnic. You can make a basket of any theme (i.e. sports, lottery basket, gardening, movies, etc.), and the items should total $25.00 or more. Tricky Trays can be dropped off at the Rectory from now until the picnic during normal business hours. This is always a “big hit” at our picnic. Thank you to everyone who helps makes this stand a great success and also to our parishioners who have donated such beautiful TRICKY TRAYS for this stand.

WORKERS NEEDED FOR TRANSFIGURATION PICNIC - Please call the rectory (454-3933) if you would like to work at the Transfiguration Summer Picnic. Workers are needed for all stands. For GAME TENT, please call Mary Krohn at 455-0240 to sign up. Your help is most welcomed and appreciated.

CONFIRMATION STUDENTS 2010 - It’s not too early to earn your Service Hours for Confirmation in 2010. Please contact Mary Krohn to sign up for the picnic.


ADVANCED FOOD TICKET SALE - Advanced Food Tickets for the Transfiguration Picnic are on sale this week at the Rectory during normal business hours. THEY WILL BE SOLD IN INCREMENTS OF $10.00 EACH.

BAKE SALE ITEMS NEEDED - Attention Transfiguration Bakers!!!! It is time to heat up the kitchen and create those wonderful goodies. Phone calls will be made. If you don’t get a call, we’re sorry we missed you. You can still bring your goodies to the stand on Saturday or Sunday. If you need your baked item(s) picked up, please call Carolyn at 455-3763 and leave a message.

CATHOLIC VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - The 2008 theme for our Southern Luzerne Deanery Vacation Bible School is RAINFOREST ADVENTURE: A TREE TOP BIBLE BLAST! Mark the dates on your calendar! We begin on Monday, August 11 and conclude on Friday, August 15. Our sessions are in the evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. On Saturday, August 16 , the 4:00 P.M. Mass shall be enhanced by our Bible School Children singing the songs they have learned during the week. Volunteers are needed for music, arts & crafts, refreshments, recreation, teaching, etc. 
Our next meeting shall be held on Wednesday, JULY 23rd at 7 PM at Transfiguration Rectory in the Dining Room. All are most welcomed to attend!

SUMMER FINANCES - Summertime is a time that Sunday collections often take a downturn because many people go away on vacation and church attendance often lags. 
Thank you for your conscientious stewardship to your parish. If you are planning on a vacation during the summer, please try to submit your envelopes upon your return. Please remember that our bills stay constant whether you are in town or away.


A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES - The Catholic Underground will be holding an exclusive screening of the movie Pope John Paul II on MONDAY, JULY 28th at the Cinema Drafthouse on Broad Street. Doors open at 5:30 PM Movie starts at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $5.00 each and can be purchased at St. Gabriel’s Rectory. Tickets are limited. If you have any additional questions, please call 454-0212.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS - Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. And give us peace. I ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. Amen.

FOOTBALL CAMP - Stan Dakosty, Head Football Coach at Marian High School, announces one of the longest running and most successful football camps in PA. This year’s camp will run from JULY 14 - JULY 16 and is open to anyone entering grades 4-9. The camp stresses football fundamentals in offense, defense and special teams. The staff includes coaches and players from Marian Colts Football Team. The cost is $48.00 and you can even register the first day of the camp. If you have any additional questions, please call

DIOCESAN CATHOLIC CHARISMATIC RENEWAL - A Catholic Charismatic Conference focusing on the theme “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit” will be held at the University of Scranton during the weekend of August 1st thru August 3rd. Speakers are Maria Vadia, Fr. John Gordon, Fr. Celsus Auguiste, Walter Matthews, Bishop Sam Jacobs, Fr. Richard Loch, and Bob Valiante. This years comference includes a youth tract and a children’s tract. Registration fee for the weekend before 7/21 is $40.00, after 7/21 it will be $55.00. Commuting and brown bagging is encouraged, although dormitory housing and cafeteria meals are available at a moderate cost.

MEN OF MARIAN PICNIC will be held on the Marian High School grounds in Hometown on Friday, Saturday, July 25th &26th from 5-10 PM and on Sunday, July 27 from 
12 noon - 10 PM. A huge flea market will again be part of the picnic. Live music will be provided all three days.

Saturday, July 27th - “Villagers Polka Band”
Sunday, July 28th - WMGH’s Polka Joe Manjack and the Magic Polka Machine and in the evening, music will be provided by “Remember When”
