BETWEEN MAN AND WOMAN: Questions and Answers about Same Sex Unions - #18
In light of the Church’s teaching about the truth and beauty of marriage, what should Catholics do? (continued)
As leaders of their family - which the Second Vatican Council called a “domestic church” (Lumen Gentium, no. 11) - couples should bring their gifts as well as their needs to the larger Church. There, with the help of other couples and their pastors and collaborators, they can strengthen their commitment and sustain their sacrament over a lifetime.

LIFELINE - Whoever wants to keep his life just for himself will lose it. Only by giving ourselves do we receive our life. In other words: only the one who loves discovers life. And love always demands going out on oneself, it always demands leaving oneself. Anyone who looks just to himself, who wants the other only for himself, will lose both himself and the other. Without this profound losing of oneself, there is no life. -Pope Benedict XVI,
Homily at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna, 9-9-2007

USED POSTAGE STAMPS - Just a friendly reminder to please continue to save your used postage stamps. I will be taking them to one of our parishioners in a Nursing Home later in January. The stamps are collected for the Catholic Diocese of Northern Alaska where they trade them in for cash. ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 6th, 2008, I kindly ask that you bring in your used stamps and drop them off in the back of the church. Soon everyone will be receiving lots of Christmas Cards, and that means lots of used stamps. Any help you can give the Diocese of Alaska will be greatly appreciated.

THE DIOCESAN PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, hear our prayer. Moved by your Holy Spirit dwelling within our hearts, we humbly ask you, Father, to bless the Diocese of Scranton at this time of profound parish renewal. Send your Holy Spirit upon our clergy, religious and lay faithful, so that we may imitate the fidelity, love and zeal of the early Church. Grant us the humility to preserve and teach the Catholic faith which has been handed on to us, so that we may worship you in Spirit and in Truth. Increase our charity, so that we may generously attend to those who pass before us in need. Bless us with missionary zeal, so that through the proclamation of the Good News, we may be salt, light and leaven to those who are distant from your love.

Holy Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, Saint Peter, Saint John Neumann, Saint Katharine Drexel and all the saints, allow us to join our prayers to yours. Through our union with you in prayer, lead us to the glorious banquet of Heaven, where you praise the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.
